Model Context Protocol

MCP server: order PVC and NFC cards from your AI assistant

Your assistant reads the catalogue, prices, creates and tracks your orders. The operations of our documented REST API, in plain language.

By Dorian Ham, founder of Printags. More than 20,000 cards printed on the Printags infrastructure. Updated on October 1, 2026

Two servers

Public server or integrator server: which one is for you?

Printags runs two MCP servers. The first answers anyone, with no account or key. The second acts on your integrator account.

Public server

No account

So that an assistant answers accurately about Printags, from production data rather than from memory.

  • Card model catalogue, read live
  • Price of an order on every plan, with the applicable VAT
  • Available carriers, prices and lead times for a destination
  • Whether an order exists, from its reference

Integrator server

Free, on request

To run your production: the assistant creates, manages and tracks your account's orders, the way your code does with the API.

  • Order creation, as drafts or firm orders
  • Upload of artwork and NFC encoding data
  • Order search and tracking, tracking number included
  • Your account's balance and subscription plan

Functions

What can your assistant do with the integrator server?

Each function maps to an operation of the documented REST API. The assistant has no rights beyond those of your integrator account.

Read your account: balance, subscription plan, options

GET/accounts/@me

List the available card models

GET/models

Upload artwork to print

POST/accounts/{accountId}/files

Compare carriers and their prices for an address

POST/shipping/rates

Create an order, as a draft or firm, with the NFC encoding of each card

POST/accounts/{accountId}/orders

Validate an order and get its price breakdown

POST/accounts/{accountId}/orders/{orderId}/validate

Find an order by its reference or metadata

GET/accounts/{accountId}/orders/find

Track an order: status, history, tracking number

GET/accounts/{accountId}/orders/{orderId}

Every operation is detailed field by field on the integration page.

For each card, the order sets what goes on the chip: a URL, a text or dynamic content, locked or not once written.

In practice

What does a request to your assistant look like?

You write as you would to a colleague. The assistant picks the functions to call and shows you the result. Depending on your MCP client's settings, it asks for your approval before acting.

You

How much do 200 printed NTAG213 cards cost, delivered to Lyon?

The assistant

The price on each plan, excluding and including VAT, and the available carriers.

You

Draft an order for 50 NTAG213 cards with this artwork and https://example.com encoded on the chip.

The assistant

The artwork is uploaded and the order created as a draft: nothing is printed until you validate it.

You

Where is order ACME-0925? Give me the tracking number.

The assistant

The current status, the status history and the parcel's tracking number.

You

What is my account balance, and which plan am I on?

The assistant

The available balance and the current subscription plan.

Connection

How do you connect the MCP server to your assistant?

  1. 1

    Create your integrator account

    The integrator server acts on an account: you need one, whatever the plan.

  2. 2

    Request activation

    Write to us through the contact page with your account's email. Activation is free on every plan.

  3. 3

    Receive the server address

    We switch the server on for your account and send you its address and authentication method.

  4. 4

    Add it to your assistant

    Add it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or your own agent, like any remote MCP server.

Try it now with the public server

The public server needs no account and no key. Add its address to your MCP client, for example:

// Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http printags https://api.printags.com/mcp/public
// Cursor · .cursor/mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "printags": {
      "url": "https://api.printags.com/mcp/public"
    }
  }
}

Security

What can the assistant see and do on your account?

Your account, and only yours

The integrator server only reaches the orders, files and details of the account it is switched on for.

Draft before print

A draft order stays on hold. Nothing is printed until the order is validated.

Nothing sensitive on the public server

It confirms that an order exists without revealing its content. Details are only given with an email linked to the order.

Price

How much does MCP access cost?

Nothing. The integrator server comes at no extra cost on every plan and is switched on upon request. Cards ordered by the assistant are billed like any other: your plan's subscription, plus the price of each printed card.

Frequently asked questions

The Printags MCP server, question by question

Which AI assistants can use the Printags MCP server?

Any client that supports the Model Context Protocol and remote servers: Claude, in the app, on the web or in Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, or an agent you build yourself.

Do I need to know how to code to use it?

No. Once the server is added to your assistant, you talk to it in plain language. Only adding the server means pasting an address into its settings.

Does the MCP server replace the REST API?

No, it builds on it. The REST API remains the way to connect your shop or software and automate orders. The MCP server is for when a person, or an AI agent, runs orders in plain language.

Can the assistant start printing without my approval?

It has the same rights as your integrator account. To stay in control, ask it to create orders as drafts: nothing is printed before validation. Your MCP client can also require your approval before each action.

What does the public server return, without an account?

The model catalogue, the price of an order on every plan with the applicable VAT, the available carriers with their prices and lead times, and whether an order exists from its reference. Amounts are given excluding VAT.

How do I switch the integrator server on for my account?

Send us a request through the contact page, with the email of your integrator account. Activation is free on every plan, and we reply with the connection details.

Connect your assistant to the Printags infrastructure

Create your integrator account, then request activation of the MCP server. Access is free on every plan.
